An atkins diet food list is difficult to remember and quite extensive if you are going to reference every food in existence. But in general, foods can be identified by the group they belong to, and this will determine whether or not it is all right to eat. For many years people were taught to place foods into four main groups; these were the meat, dairy, fruits and vegetables, and grain groups. Although most nutritionists no longer group foods in this manner, it serves as a quick reference for an atkins diet food list.

The Atkins diet is a low in carbohydrates. Foods that are high in carbohydrates are in the grain group as well as fruits. This is fairly easy to remember. You can eat anything you want from the meat or dairy group, but avoid anything in the grain group. With regard to fruits and vegetable, eat all of the vegetables you want, but avoid fruit. Once you categorize food into one of the four groups you will have an atkins diet food list right inside your head.

Meats are easy to remember. If it is meat from an animal, it is in the meat group. Dairy is anything from the cow such as milk, butter, cheese, and yogurt. Grains and vegetables can be confusing because they are both plant life. But grains are used to make foods that we eat, although they can also be eaten by themselves such as rice. Anything made from rice, as well as oats, wheat, and corn are off limits. Fruits are obvious because they are sweet, but be careful distinguishing between low and high carbohydrate vegetables. Although almost all vegetables are low in carbohydrates, the exception to this is all of the popularĀ  beans that are eaten. Corn is also an exception to being low in carbohydrates, but it is easy to think of it as a grain.
