But in general, foods can be identified by the group they belong to, and this will determine whether or not it is all right to eat. For many years people were taught to place foods into four main groups; these were the meat, dairy, fruits and vegetables, and grain groups. Although most nutritionists no longer group foods in this manner, it serves as a quick reference for an atkins diet food list.</p>
<p>The Atkins diet is a low in carbohydrates. Foods that are high in carbohydrates are in the grain group as well as fruits. This is fairly easy to remember. You can eat anything you want from the meat or dairy group, but avoid anything in the grain group. With regard to fruits and vegetable, eat all of the vegetables you want, but avoid fruit. Once you categorize food into one of the four groups you will have an atkins diet food list right inside your head.</p>
<p>Meats are easy to remember. If it is meat from an animal, it is in the meat group. Dairy is anything from the cow such as milk, butter, cheese, and yogurt. Grains and vegetables can be confusing because they are both plant life. But grains are used to make foods that we eat, although they can also be eaten by themselves such as rice. Anything made from rice, as well as oats, wheat, and corn are off limits. Fruits are obvious because they are sweet, but be careful distinguishing between low and high carbohydrate vegetables. Although almost all vegetables are low in carbohydrates, the exception to this is all of the popular  beans that are eaten. Corn is also an exception to being low in carbohydrates, but it is easy to think of it as a grain.</p>

It first surfaced in the 1970s as the brain child of  Dr. Robert Atkins and enjoyed a rebirth in the 1990s. The Atkins Diet has been controversial ever since.  A new book was released in 2002 called Dr. Atkins New Diet revolution which revamped the Atkins Diet but kept basic principles. Some people have success with it and other dont. Medical institutions declared  the diet unsafe especially if it was used for long-term weight maintenance.</p>
<p>Atkins believes calories are not important and the secret to weight loss is severely reducing the number of carbohydrates you consume. This makes the body convert  stored fat into energy.  Supporters conclude that you will not crave as many foods and the body will use ketenes for energy. They also allege you can eat more foods and lose more weight on a low-carbohydrate diet as opposed to  low-fat diets.</p>
<p>The atkins diet is comprised of several phases. The first stage of the atkins diet is the induction phase.The induction phase limits carbohydrates to 20 grams daily.You will not find it hard to reach the limit if you eat condiments, cheeses, and salad dressings. Forbidden foods include vegetables, fruits high on the glycemic index (a scale that measures the impact of sugar content on your blood glucose), bread, grains, cereals, and milk. The next phase is O.W.L or ongoing weight loss. This stage allows you to include additional carbohydrates. The final two phases of the atkins diet are the per-lifetime maintenance  lifetime maintenance stage.</p>
<p>The atkins diet is in opposition to what medical experts suggest. It also contradicts the urging of the FDA to eat vegetables, grains, and fruits. No one should start  a diet without first seeking advice from a doctor.</p>

Atkins diet is designed such that it allows our bodies to lose weight in naturally by introducing several changes in our metabolism. Though the main purpose of the diet is to lose weight it has shown positive reactions to people suffering from high cholesterol, diabetes, and hypertension commenting on how they feel more energetic after being on diet for one week.<br />
There are four phases of the Atkins diet recipes which are very practical and easy to follow. In each phase one is given choice to select food to eat depending on your needs to achieve weight loss.
